TEXT CURATORIAL

Iusty Gallery is pleased to announce solo exhibition of artist Andrei Gamarț, titled “Mirare”.

The artist’s approach is rooted in a profound exploration of the act of seeing and how our perception transforms the surrounding reality.

If we were to see the world for the first time, if we opened ourselves to it as we open our eyes after an eternity in darkness, without reference points, lost in vast solitude, we would be in awe that the world exists, that we are here with it, in this very moment. As the world unfolds before our eyes, reflecting within us like light on the surface of a mirror, our gaze returns curiously to confirm it, completing it with every passing moment as we see it, and completing ourselves along with it.
Wonder is tied to the visible world; it is the expression of innocence in the face of something new and unseen, something that brings joy, overwhelms, or even frightens. Starting from the original meaning of the word “mirare”—”to look” in vulgar Latin—Gamarț invites us to reflect on our relationship with the visible and invisible worlds, using the mirror as a central symbol.

For Gamarț, mirrors are more than simple objects; they are enigmatic phenomena, capable of capturing not only the immediate image but also the depth, time, and essence of things. In this exhibition, they become portals between reality and imagination, doubles and specters that evoke a subtle relationship with the physical world. The mirror, as a metaphor for knowledge, is treated here as an instrument that multiplies space, transforming its surface into an illusion that challenges us to explore beyond the visible.

Andrei Gamarț’s works invite us to look at ourselves, to confront our own reflections, and to discover what might lie beneath the surface of immediate reality. They become mirrors that catch and transform light, capturing fleeting moments of time and space. Through this process, the viewer is invited to become part of the work, to reflect the world in unexpected ways, and to experience a profound form of self-discovery.

The “MIRARE” exhibition marks Andrei Gamarț’s artistic return to the cultural space of the Republic of Moldova, presenting a selection of works created between 2013 and 2024. Each of these works is an act of reflection on the world and on how sight accompanies it, trying to capture the fleeting image of the world, for seeing is not about things, but about how they pass or endure.

Gamarț offers us a visual experience that transcends mere observation, inviting us to lose ourselves in the mystery of the mirror and to rediscover ourselves in a new light.
